Brondbo takes fourth in women's 3k to highlight day two of NCAA Championships

Kelsey Kaufmann
joined Brondbo in the 19-athelte field of the women's 3k, but her fortunes didn't turn out like that of her teammate. Blakeslee hung towards the top of the pack, but as the 15 laps came winding down, the Augustana senior fell in to 11th and finished with a time of 9:56.50. Blakeslee earned All-American honors as the anchor of the women's distance medley relay team that placed sixth on day one.

Sophomore Kelsey Kaufmann made her national meet debut in the women's high jump, taking 16th. Kaufmann shook off her nerves, clearing the opening height of 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches) on her third attempt.

Not without drama, Kaufmann cleared the next height of 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches) to stay alive in the 17-jumper competition. Kaufmann nicked the bar on her first two attempts before making the second height. The Arlington, S.D. native logged two good jumps at 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches), but Kaufmann couldn't clear the third height.

"I am also very proud of our seniors' performances at this year's national championships," Hellman said. "They have been very instrumental to our previous success and showed it again this weekend."

The Viking women collected eight points as a team to finish in 28th as Adams State took the women's team championship with 67 points. The men earned three points for their DMR performance to place them in a tie for 38th with St. Augustine's winning the men's championship at 84.5 points.
