Hofmeister breaks 200-meter record on day two of Sioux City Relays

DAY ONE RECAP | RESULTS

SIOUX CITY, Iowa
- Carina Hofmeister broke the Augustana women's 200-meter dash  record as the Vikings won three events and recorded two provisional times on day two of the Sioux City Relays.

Competing in the women's elite 200-meter dash, Hofmeister clocked a 24.82-second run, breaking the school record set by Tonia Burgard in 2003. The sophomore from Germany took second in the event and missed a provisional qualifying mark by two tenths of a second.

Hofmeister collected an event victory later in the day, running a leg on the Augustana 4x400-meter relay squad. Running with Anne Parsley, Colleen Everson, and Kayla Mescher, the Augustana women recorded time of 3:49.49, just half a second shy of a provisional mark, to win the race.

Four more women gave the Vikings their second win of the day and fifth total at the meet, taking the 4x100-meter relay title. Kyerra Titus-Baer, Laura Popnz, Kirsten Nyberg, and Karmen Nyberg combined to finish their lap in 49.24 seconds.

Popanz, Titus-Baer, and Kirsten Nyberg all placed top-five in the women's 100-meter dash final. Popanz (12.48 seconds) took third, Titus-Baer (12.77) finished fourth, and Nyberg (12.89) came in fifth.

Late Friday night, two more Vikings hit provisional qualifying times, placing first and second in the women's 5,000-meter run. Kristin Brondbo won the race in 17:06.56 and Kyle Blakeslee finished right behind her teammate in 17:13.98 as both Vikings' times were fast enough for provisional marks. Meritxell Delgado took fourth and Megan Brown placed seventh in the race as well.

The women's distance crew again performed well on Saturday, placing four in the women's 1,500-meter run. Brondbo (4:37.9) was the highest finisher in third, followed by Blakeslee (4:43.43) in fourth, Delgado (4:43.54) in fifth, and Kaitlyn Yoerg (4:44.85) placing sixth.

Also on Friday night, Augustana had four distance medley relay teams earn top five finishes with the top squad taking second. Nathan Hauge, Thomas Sittig, Paul Yak, and Keegan Carda were the highest finishers, combining for a 10:22.80 time.

The men placed three in the top eight of the 1,500-meter run with Harald Karbo narrowly missing a qualifying time. Karbo was the highest finisher, taking fifth with a time of 3:53.31, followed by Jordan Slusser (3:55.10) in sixth and John Klecker (3:56.63) in eighth.

The Vikings had five more relay teams place in the top five of their event, including a pair of runner-up performances. Two women's squads earned top-five finishes in the 4x200-meter relay with the Nyberg sisters, Katie Tonner, and Colleen Everson taking second (1:44.48) and Calliann Brunswig, Janelle Paulson, Kaylynn Erlandson, and Allyssa Schmidt placing fifth in 1:48.74.

Both men's and women's sprint medley relay teams earned top-three finishes with the men being edged for second place. Justin Greenway and Jason Greenway ran the 200-meter legs, followed by Skyler Kuil in the 400 meters, and anchored by Aduo Omot's 800-meter leg for a time of 3:25.84. Kirsten and Karmen Nyberg ran the women's 200 meters, followed by Charissa Etrheim's 400-meter portion and capped by Emma Anderson's 800 meters for a 4:16.45 to take third.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Brandon Gildemaster, Jason and Justin Greenway, and Trevor DeSchepper placed fourth with their 43.15-second run.

Colleen Everson was Augustana's lone field placer, finishing in fourth in the women's long jump with a best leap of 5.51 meters (18-1).

Chance Freese and Adam Kost earned their first top-eight finishes as Vikings, placing sixth and seventh, respectively, in the men's 5,000-meter run. Freese clocked a 16:36.88 and Kost turned in a 16:38.03.

Ryan Heuer closed out the busy day for the Vikings with a 15.80-second run in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
