How Many Titles Will the Kraft Family Add to the Ultimate Class B Trophy Case?

Rich Winter

I'm guessing the 2013 state track meet was deemed a failure by Wessington Springs athlete Jace Kraft. He finished 2nd in the 800 and then 45 minutes later he finished 2nd in the 3200.

He came back on Saturday to nip Parker's Duane Jongeling at the tape to claim a state title in the 1600.

Well, Jongeling has graduated and the class of the Class B distance ranks is Jace Kraft.

I'm guessing he gets the ultimate 3-peat and tells brothers and sister to move their trophies down a notch because the most decorated distance runner in the school's history is about to throw down at the 2014 South Dakota state meet.

(The photo used in this piece is from Kernit Grimshaw...you can find thousands of pictures from last year's state meet at kernit.zenpholio.com....I'm guessing he'll have a ton from this year's meet as well.)

100 meters:

Heller has the best time in the state but I'm guessing Anderson of Irene-Wakonda will be too consistent and too fast for the Black Panther to catch up.

100m Dash - 11.20
1. Heller, Kole 10.60 Platte-Geddes
2. Anderson, Garrett 10.80 Irene-Wakonda

9. Clark, Sam 11.20 Sunshine Bible Academy
10. Lehr, Dylan 11.20 Menno

200 meters:

Anderson is the class of the field and he gets the sprint double.

200m Dash - 23.50
1. Anderson, Garrett 22.10 Irene-Wakonda
2. Kocmich, Brandon 22.40 Avon

400 meters: Freeman's Brennan Schmidt is a full second faster than anyone else in the field.

400m Dash - 52.10
1. Schmidt, Brennan 49.50 Freeman
2. Erickson, Tristen 50.50 Parker
3. Lemon, Aaron 51.20 Mitchell Christian

8. Kinzer, Terrance 52.00 Colome
9. Kraft, Jase 52.00 Wessington Springs

800 meter run:

With the 3200 meter run coming up about 45 minutes after the 800, ya gotta think Kraft will do everything to win this race in as comfortable of a pace as he can afford. He knows the Parker guy Olson, and no chance that Kraft slips up here.

800m Run - 2:05.10
1. Kraft, Jase 1:56.60 Wessington Springs
2. Olson, Michael 2:00.70 Parker

4. Brockel, Jaden 2:03.10 Sunshine Bible Academy
5. Koch, Brandon 2:04.20 New Underwood
6. Holman, Nelson 2:04.40 Philip

1600 meter run: Kraft's time is 18 seconds faster than Bison 8th grader Daniel Burkhalter. Kraft should be rested after a big Friday and I'm guessing he's going across the finish line when everyone else is just entering the stretch.

1600m Run - 4:44.90
1. Kraft, Jase 4:22.60 Wessington Springs
2. Burkhalter, Daniel 4:40.70 Bison
3. Iwerks , Tucker 4:43.10 Aberdeen Christian

3200 meter run: This one will be the trickiest for Kraft as he'll have to recover from that 800 and get right back on the track. I'm guessing he lays in the weeds for the first six laps and then assumes control of the race with a steady, surge for the last 800 meters.

    Winning time: 10:05

3200m Run - 10:31.00
1. Kraft, Jase 9:49.70 Wessington Springs
