While the Custer boy's are well on the way to another South Dakota state track championship, the Class A girls race is just getting started.

Custer picked up an early title in the morning in the 4x800 relay as Shane Herman, Logan Burns, Israel Parsons and Chase Glazier completed the eight laps in 8:14 to just edge out Madison who also had a solid run.

The Wildcats picked up two titles in the afternoon with Brennan Witt capturing the 800 meters and Logan Burns winning the 1600.

Chamberlain standout, Hudson Priebe, finished 3rd in the long jump and had the fastest qualifying time in the 100 hurdles and 2nd fastest in the 300 hurdles.

Field events:

Dell Rapids got a boost when Bret Nichols won the long jump (22'5"). The Quarriors had a solid day on the track and qualified as the fastest quartet in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Custer picked up more points in the pole vault, won by SF Christian's Gavin Dehaii (13'6"). The Wildcats had three vaulters in the top eight.

Vermillion shot putter Nick Jensen picked up a title when his put of 53'11.5" beat Canton's Tyler Lems by .5 inch.

Custer will win the meet, but look for Dell Rapids to make a strong push on Saturday.

Girls action:

Looks like the team title could be a really interesting race on Saturday as St. Thomas More, Madison and Sioux Falls Christian are all within two points of each other.

Madison got off to a good start when they captured the 4x800 relay in the morning. St. Thomas More picked up eight points in that 4x800.

Custer's Tori Glazer captured her 2nd consecutive 800 meter title and STM picked up five big points when 8th grader Klaire Kirsch finished 4th in that 800 final.

Madison picked up 12 points as the Streiff sisters finished No. 1 and No. 7.

Enmma Johnson of Tri-Valley captured the high jump, but STM finished 2/3 in that event (Kennedy Kirsch and Shannon Duffy) to score 14 points.

Sioux Falls Christian long-jumper, Kara Koth won that event, 17'3.75" for ten points. SFC picked up another ten points in the field events when Allison Brooks soared to the title in the pole vault.

Jenni Qualm of Hill City captured the shot put to round out the field events.

Some really good head-to-head races in the 200 and 400 between STM and SFC.

Madison should do well in the mile and the medley relays tomorrow.

Buckle up folks, Saturday is going to be special!
