Women join men at the No.1 spot in the USTFCCCA Central Region rankings

NEW ORLEANS – Augustana's men's and women's cross country NSIC Championship titles only tightened their grip on the No. 1 spots in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Central Region Rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

The men have held on the top billing for a seventh consecutive week. The Vikings dominated the 2014 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships, placing six runners in the top 10. The men's depth pushed Augustana to a first-place title for a sixth consecutive season.

Sioux Falls tabbed the No. 2 spot in the USTFCCCA Central Region rankings for a fifth consecutive week, after taking second place, 24 points behind the Vikings at the Conference Championships last weekend.

The Augustana women moved up one spot to No.1 in the Central rankings after winning in a tiebreaker against Minnesota Duluth taking the title at the NSIC Championships in Wayne, Neb. This marks the first time this season that the Vikings women take the No. 1 spot this season, while Minnesota Duluth pushed back to the No. 2 spot.

Joining Augustana and UMD in the rankings from the NSIC are Winona State (third), U-Mary (fifth), and MSU Moorhead (seventh).

The Vikings travel back to Wayne, Neb. for the NCAA Central Region Championships hosted by Wayne State College on Nov. 22. The top four men's teams will be awarded berths to the NCAA Championships and the top four women's team will make the field as well.
