PHOENIX – Augustana College men's and women's distance medley and 4x1500 relay teams will be honored by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the top relay performances of the year in NCAA Division II in 2013-14. Augustana head coach
Tracy Hellman will be presented with the award at the USTFCCCA convention on Thursday.
Augustana's men's and women's distance medley relay teams recorded the top times in all of Division II at the Drake Relays on April 25. Both 4x1500 relay teams set the top Division II time at the Kansas Relays on April 19.
The men's DMR team of Jordan Slusser,
Skyler Kuil, Aduo Omot and
Harald Karbo came up one second shy of breaking a school record as the quartet finished with a time of 9:51.78 at the Drake Relays.
The women's DMR team of Kyle Blakeslee,
Carina Hofmeister,
Kayla Mescher and Kristin Brondbo broke a two-year old Augustana and South Dakota collegiate record with a time of 11:32.87 and a first-place finish at the Drake Relays.
At the Kansas Relays, Jordan Slusser,
Nathan Hauge,
TJ Gleason and
Paul Yak clocked a time of 17:34.78 for a first-place finish and the top time in the country in the 4x1600 and their score was converted down to a 4x1500 time of 16:22.32 for the fastest Division II time in the nation.
The women's distance quartet of Kyle Blakeslee,
Meritxell Delgado,
Kaitlyn Yoerg and Kristin Brondbo finished their 4x1600 race in 20:26.57 for a converted 4x1500 time of 19:02.31 and a first-place finish at the Kansas Relays.
Augustana men's and women's indoor track and field will resume the 2014-15 season at the Dordt Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17
