BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Augustana College women's track and field team had six athletes earn All-American honors on day two, bringing their total to seven at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
"It's very exciting to finish the national championships bringing home school records and All-American honors," head coach
Tracy Hellman said. "All our athletes that competed this weekend did great respresenting Augustana College and our indoor track and field team."
The women's team of
Carina Hofmeister,
Charissa Etrheim,
Kayla Mescher, and
Anne Parsley all earned their All-American finish, taking seventh in the 13-squad field setting a new school record with a time of 3:48.98.
Sophomore
Irene Almarcha earned a seventh place finish in the 60-meter hurdles clocking a time of 8.59 to earn All-American status. Mescher collected her second All-American honor after taking fifth in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.36.
Junior
Bree Woelber placed 13th in the women's pentathlon earning 3,034 points to open day two of the NCAA Championships. To start the day off, Woelber clocked a time of 9.06 placing ninth in the 60-meter hurdles. Woelber followed her performance placing third in the high jump clearing 1.72 meters (5 feet, 7.75 inches). After the first two events, Woelber sat with 1,776 points sitting second-place. In the third event, the Pipestone, Minn. native threw a heave of 11.05 meters (36 feet, 3 inches) to place ninth in the shot put.
Woelber took eighth in the long jump with a clearance of 5.36 meters (17 feet, 7 inches). In the final event, Woelber battled through an injury which placed her 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:57.55.
Kelsey Kaufmann took 14th in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4.25 inches). Followed by
Leah Seivert closing out competition for the Vikings recording a personal-best time of 9:48.66 to take 13th-place in the 3,000-meter run.
"We are happy to close the book on our indoor season with great performances, now we move towards outdoor season with great excitement," Hellman said.
The Augustana women's team collected 10 points tying for 23rd, while Central Missouri took the women's team championship with 47 points.
