The Brandon Valley Lynx looked like a program with the potential to make noise at state in the boys and girls fields after a strong showing at Monday’s Dan Lennon track invitation at the DakotaDome.

That said, defending girls champions Rapid City Stevens, runner-up Rapid City Central and third-place finisher Pierre weren’t in attendance. On the boys side, 2014 champion Lincoln and runner-up Roosevelt remained in the mix.

Brandon Valley picked up first-place finishes in the girls 60 meter dash (eighth-grader Krista Bickley, 8.09 seconds), girls 400 meter dash (junior Cortney Bickley, 1:00.42), and in the girls 800 relay, 1,600 relay and 1,600 sprint medley.

Junior Mitch Selken added a title in the boys 800 with a time of 2:03.59, and sophomore teammate Jecob Hegland finished second. The Lynx also had second-place boys finishes in the 1,600 (Jakob Hanna, 4:34.75), pole vault (Cole Christiansen, 13-0) and triple jump (Alex Wilde, 44-11.75).

The Lincoln girls also came on strong, with titles from freshmen Mollie Kelly (800, 2:29.78) and Jasmyne Cooper (1,600, 5:14.4). Sophomore Aneska Szabo added a high jump title (5-1).

The Patriot boys won the 1,600 sprint medley with a time of 3:39.94 and took second in the 1,600 relay. Ned Sudbeck and Dale Loudon finished second in the 400 and 3,200.

Roosevelt’s Jesus Urtusuastegui won the boys 1,600 with a time of 4:31.1 while finisheing third in the 800.

South Dakota State football recruits Taryn Christion and Chase Vinatieri finished second and fourth in the 60-meter dash.

Mayuen Akok added a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (8.6) for the Rough Riders, while the 1,600 relay team won in 3:32.74.

Makkalyn Konzem finished second in the girls 60-meter hudles. O’Gorman’s Alyssa Weidler finished second in the long jump (16-5.75) but was the top South Dakota finisher. Weidler took third in the 60 meter dash (8.21).

Harrisburg’s Haley Bruggeman won the 60 hurdles in 9.53. Erin Kinney added a second-place finish for the Tigers in the 60-meter dash (8.19).
