BREAKING! State Champ's Season Over: District 17/18 6A Area Cancelled!

BREAKING: District 17/18 6A Area Meet Cancelled

The meet which was originally scheduled for Thursday will not be postponed. Moving forward it was decided that the top 2 athletes/teams from each district will advance to Region. This choice means that some of the best athletes in Texas will be denied the opportunity to compete. It has not yet been decided how ties will be handled.

Obviously this week has been very difficult for everyone out in Houston, and we expected a lot of changes in the Area meets...but it's one thing to make this type of decision BEFORE the district meet...and a whole separate issue to do this after district.

The entire dynamic of the District would have changed with the new cutoff. Why push harder when you're in 3rd or 4th and know you've locked in a spot at Area? My sympathies go out to everyone in Houston, and there's no doubt this is a difficult situation to handle. But difficult situations require creative solutions. Is this the right choice in my opinion? Absolutely not.

Isaiah Lucas is the 2015 300H State Champion, 2015 110H State Runner Up, All Conditions 2015 110H US #3, 2015 300H US #5, 3rd at the 2015 WORLD Youth Championships...and his individual 2016 Texas outdoor track season is over. ARE YOU KIDDING!?
