Which Teams Have The Best Shot At An NXN Wildcard Bid?

NXN South Regional - results & coverage

Girls

Auto Qualifiers:

1. Southlake Carroll (TX), 50 points

2. Keller (TX), 57 points

Potential Wildcards:

3. The Woodlands (TX), 101 points

4. Marcus (TX), 174 points

While SL and Keller have gone back and forth all season, The Woodlands and Marcus are very solidly the #3 and #4 teams in the state as they finished in that order at the state meet and the Marcus Invitational at the beginning of the year.

CONS: Teams from the South rarely get a wildcard bid and often finish toward the bottom at nationals. In 2015, Kingwood was 22/22; in 2014, Marcus was 21/22. In 2013, region third placer Southlake Carroll got an auto bid only because they won their state meet over New Braunfels and WLCP..they took 17/22 and The Woodlands was 20th... Odds are that South does not get a wildcard bid.

Boys

Auto Qualifiers:

1. Southlake Carroll (TX), 97 points

2. The Woodlands College Park (TX), 111 points

Potential Wildcards:

3. The Woodlands (TX), 124 points

4. El Paso Eastwood (TX), 136 points

PROs: The Woodlands has a realistic shot at wildcard bid as #1 runner William Hunsdale did not run due to illness but one week earlier, they whooped College Park and Carroll at state meet. Beat NXR #1 Carroll by 72 points and NXR #2 College Park by 190 points, which should assure them a wildcard bid.

CONs: Although The Woodlands beat Carroll and College Park this year, do not have any out of state wins. Historically, they go to NXN but fall apart under the pressure.
