Track and Field Teams Have Strong Showing at Bison Open

The Augustana men's and women's track teams produced a strong showing at the North Dakota State University, Bison Open on Sunday. Eight Vikings placed in the top five of their respective events, while 16 members finished in the top 10. 

The women had a dominating performance in the 3,000 meters, coming in first and second place. Senior Molly Clark finished in first place with a time of 10:24.80 while freshman Kyle Blakeslee was close behind in second, finishing in 10:29.69. 

The Vikings placed three runners in the top 10 of the mile, with junior Caitlin Polgreen taking fourth place, finishing with a time of 5:12.35. Freshman Cecillie Udstuen came in sixth, completing the race in 5:15.48, and freshman Annie Pfeifle finished with a time of 5:17.29, earning her eighth place. 

Junior Bobbi Jo Buyck took ninth place in the 60 meters, running the prelims in 8.01 and the final in 8.04.

In the field events, junior Noel Bentele placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 50-06.75 feet. She also took sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 11.59 meters. Sophomore Rachel Christainsen finished in fifth place in the weight throw with a mark of 48-08.75 feet. Buyck took home sixth place in the pole vault, launching herself 11-0.175 ft.

On the men's side, senior Brian Werner finished second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:32.17. Sophomore Travis Beniak also took home a second-place finish, running the 3,000 meters in 8:17.65. 

Junior Zach Morris finished in sixth place in the 800 meters, running it in a time of 2:00.70. Freshman Aduo Omot took seventh place in the 400 meter by running a 51.21. 

In the mile, freshman Jordan Slusser finishing in eighth place, finishing in 4:32.87 while freshman Per Santroen was close behind in ninth with a time of 4:34.79. 

Sophomore Tyler Lynch posted a throw of 14.38 meters to earn himself third in the shot put while Kevin Knapp took home 10th in the weight throw with a mark of 46-0.800 ft.

The team will next compete in Vermillion, S.D. on Feb. 23 at the USD Invitational.
