The Augustana men's and women's track team had a strong day, including setting a school record, at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and at the Dordt Invitational in Sioux Center, Iowa Friday.

The highlight of the day came at the Iowa State Classic in the women's distance medley relay where the Vikings set a school record. The team of Linn Nilsson (1,200 meters), Molly Kokesh (400), Cecille Udstuen (800) and Caitlin Polgreen (mile) crossed the finish line in sixth place overall in a time of 11:49.56 to set the school record and establish an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The previous school record was 12:01.82 set in 2006.

On the men's side, Matt Braithwaite and Matt Heesch ran well in the 5,000 meters. Braithwaite finished fifth in a time of 14:57.90 while Heesch was 20th in 10:12.62.

The Iowa State Classic concludes on Saturday. Augustana has 13 athletes scheduled to compete.

At the Dordt Invitational, Augustana crowned five champions. The Viking women had three event winners. Molly Clark won the 3,000 meters in 10:14.90, while the 4X800 relay team of Megan Erspamer, Allison Henke, Rachel Biederman and LeAnn Severson won in a time of 9:35.50.

In the field events, Kristen Nielsen won the shot put with a mark of 40-7.00.

The men's winners included Travis Beniak in the mile. Beniak turned in a time of 4:21.35. Tyler Lynch claimed the weight throw with a heave of 48-10.75. He also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 48-4.75.

In the women's weight throw, the Vikings finished second and third. Noel Bentele had a best throw of 52-9.25 to finish second, while Rachel Christiansen was third with a mark of 40-4.75. In the high jump, Karissa Pepin placed third after clearing 4-11.75.

Diego Oquendo had a strong showing in the 55-meter dash. After turning in the top time in the preliminaries, Oquendo finished second in the finals, crossing the tape in 6.54 seconds.
