Augustana was well-represented during the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships Sunday in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Viking's Blake Ridgway is in fourth place and
Jacob Pohlmann is in eighth place after the first day of the heptathlon, while
Meagan Grandgenett and
Claire Severson finished eighth and 11th in the pentathlon.
Ridgway has a 4-event total of 2,548 points, while Pohlmann scored 2,454 points. Defending NSIC champion Zac Preble of Bemidji State holds the first day lead with 2,902 points, just 9 points ahead of Concordia-St. Paul's John Pimental, who has a total of 2,893 points.
Ridgway and Pohlmann made their mark on Day 1 in the high jump as they finished first and second. Ridgway turned in the best jump of the event by clearing 6-04.25. Pohlmann tied for second with a leap of 6-03.25.
Grandgenett placed eighth with a personal-best total of 2,945 points. Meanwhile, Severson accumulated 2,590 points to place 11th. St. Cloud State's Heather Miller defended her conference title with a new NSIC record of 3,910 points.
The men's heptathlon concludes Monday at the Barnett Center. The competition concludes with the 60-meter hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000 meters.
