Distance Medley Relay Team Finishes Sixth at Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships

Augustana's women's distance medley relay team finished in sixth place to highlight the Vikings' day at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on Friday in Albuquerque, N.M.

The team of Linn Nilsson, Bobbi Jo Buyck, Cecilie Udstuen and Caitlin Polgreen crossed the finish line in a time of 11:59.87 to finish sixth. Seattle Pacific won the race in a time of 11:29.88. The top eight teams earned All-American honors.

In other action Friday, Udstuen advanced to the finals of the women's 800 meter run. Udstuen finished her preliminary race in 12:14.62, which was the third-best time in her heat. The top three finishers in each heat plus the next three fastest times advanced to the finals. The final for the women's 800 meter run will take place on Saturday at 4:40 p.m. (MT).

Two other Vikings competed in preliminary events on Friday. Nilsson ran the women's mile, completing the race in 5:10.95. She was fourth in her heat and 11th overall, which kept her from advancing to the finals.

Also participating in the national meet was Diego Oquendo. His time of 6.89 in the men's 60 meter dash left him just .02 seconds away from advancing to the finals. In the event, the winners of each of the two heats advance to the finals as well as the six next best times. Oquendo's was the seventh-best time after the heat winners.
