Viking Men Finish Fourth at NSIC Track & Field Championships

Final Results

The Augustana men's track & field teams finished fourth at the NSIC Outdoor Championships Saturday in Moorhead, Minn. Travis Beniak took home the NSIC title in the 3000 meter steeplechase while Tom Karbo is the NSIC Champion in both the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters. In addition, Karbo was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year.

Karbo took home an NSIC Championship in the 1500 meter, beating out Denise Mokaya by less than half a second. Austin Vande Berg was fourth in the event, finishing in 3:58.45.
 
Karbo also won the 5K with a time of 14:47.08. Beniak was seventh in the event, with a time of 15:18.41.
 
The Vikings took first and second in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Beniak completed the race in 9:11.20 to become the NSIC Champion, while Daniel Black was just .02 seconds behind, finishing in 9:11.22. Both of these times were provisional qualifiers.
 
Augie had three competitors score points in the 800 meter. Aduo Omot was second, finishing in 1:52.56, a provisional qualifying time. Brian Werner took fourth with a time of 1:54.27 while Vande Berg was sixth after finishing in 1:55.54.
 
Paul Mallory and Diego Oquendo were fourth and fifth in the 110 hurdles, respectively. Mallory finished in 14.92 while Oquendo was close behind in 14.99. Mallory was also fourth in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 56.36.
 
In the field events, Aaron Jung took sixth place in the shot put with a best throw of 50-01.75 feet. Tyler Lynch was eighth in the discus with a throw of 146-10 feet. 

The Vikings will be back at home next weekend as they compete in the Last Chance Meet on May 15.
