Cross country opens fall camp in Black Hills

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana women's and men's cross country programs are in the Black Hills for their annual fall training camp this week.  Head coach Tracy Hellman and 27student-athletes will train until Friday in preparation for the upcoming season.

Both the women's and men's programs were ranked No. 1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Coaches' Poll released last week.  Both squads also checked in at No. 4 in the first Central Region rankings of the year.  Nationally, the women were ranked No. 11 and the men 10th in the first national poll of 2010.

Assistant coach Jim Vahrenkamp will be chronicling the Vikings' days in the Black Hills on the Augustana cross country and track blog, which can be viewed by clicking here.  Vahrenkamp will post daily updates and video interviews throughout the week.

The Vikings are the defending NSIC champions for both women's and men's.

The cross country season gets underway on Sept. 25 when the Vikings travel to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational, one of the largest meets in the country.
