Schweiss and Person Lead the South Dakota Girls @ Nike Heartland

South Dakota’s best were on display Sunday at the 2104 Nike Heartland Regional Meet at Yankton Trails Park.

The girl’s championship race included a star-studded field, featuring Stephanie Jenks from Iowa who was on last summer’s Junior World Championship track and field squad for Team USA and the Hasz twins,  Bethany and Megan, who went 1-2 last season at the Nike Heartland Regional.

Add to that, defending NXN Champion Wayzata…you get what I mean- this race was stacked.

How did the South Dakota girls fare?

Jamie Schweiss (RC Stevens) led the South Dakota charge with her 46th place finish, cracking the 19:00 mark, and running 18:48.  Her Stevens’ teammate Emily Person was 84th in 19:11.

Jasmyne Cooper, the Class AA champion from SF Lincoln was 100th in 19:24.

Yankton’s Madison McClure was 118th in 19:34 and her teammate, Savannah Woods- the ESD Champion- was 129th in 19:41.

Laura Nelson, the Class B runner-up from Gayville-Volin was 154th in 19:57.  Maddie Lavin (Vermillion) finished in 172nd place, running 20:10 and Kendra Dykstra, 3rd RC Stevens at the AA State Meet, was 184th (20:21).  Mallory Fine (RC Stevens) was also in the Top 200, finishing in 194th (20:26).

Rapid City Stevens was the lone South Dakota team in the Championship division and finished in 21st place.
