The Augustana men's and women's track teams opened the 2009-10 season with some strong performances at the MSU Preseason Open Saturday in Mankato, Minn.
On the women's side,
Caitlin Polgreen was the only Viking to win an event, winning the mile run in a time of 5:16.88.
Bobbi Jo Buyck also had a strong day as she finished with a pair of fifth-place finishes. She was fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.96 after turning in a time of 7.92 in the preliminaries. She also was fifth in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 26.56.
In the field events,
Karissa Pepin placed sixth with a best jump of 5-01.75.
Four Viking men turned in top 6 finishes. Leading the way was
Brian Werner. Werner turned in a time of 1:56.44 to finish in second place in the 800 meters.
Matt Heesch finished third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:55.08.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Paul Mallory placed fourth in a time of 8.59 after racing to a time of 8.57 in the preliminaries. Rounding out the group was
Zach Morris, who was sixth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:25.89.
