Both the men's and women's cross country teams at Augustana have earned a chance to compete at the national meet thanks to stellar performances at the Central Regional meet in Wayne, Neb. The women finished in third place while the men's team took fifth. 

This marks the fourth year in a row that the Augie women have qualified, and they finished with 90 points, just two points behind second place finisher, Western State. Adams State took home the title with 36 points. The University of Mary finished in fourth place with 169 points while Metro State and Minnesota Duluth rounded out the top six with 175 and 179 points, respectively.

Leading the way for the Vikings was senior Molly Clark, who finished ninth, running the 6K course in 22:26.4. She was followed closely by freshman Kyle Blakeslee who took 11th place by finishing in 22:29.3. Sophomore Miriam Hovda also placed in the top 20. Her time of 22:47.8 earned 17th place. 

Freshman Annie Pfeifle took home 24th place, running the race in 22:55.6. Senior Jillian Tholen was next in 29th, finishing in 23:05.2. Senior Alyssa Anderson completed the course in 23:12.4 to earn her 33rd place while freshman Leah Hansen came in 37th with a time of 23:19.5. 

On the men's side, the first three runners across the finish line were from Adams State, earning them the team title with 20 points. Western State came in second with 47 points and Colorado School of Mines posted 100 points. Augie was narrowly beat out of fourth place by Metro State, who finished with 142 points to Augie's 143. This is the second time in four years that the men have qualified.

Junior Tom Karbo led the Viking men, earning 17th place by running the 10K course in 32:28.5. Sophomore Travis Beniak was the next best on the day, completing the race in 32:53.3 and taking home 27th place. Juniors Matt Braithwaite and Austin Vande Berg finished 31 and 32, respectively. Brathwaite clocked a time of 33:04.3 while Vande Berg came in at 33:06.4. 

Junior Daniel Black ran in 33:16.9 to earn 36th place. Freshman Ryan Evans completed the race in 34:24.8 to come in 61st and senior Matt Heesch was 64th with a time of 34:28.8. 

The last time both the men's and women's team qualified for the national meet was in 2006. The national meet will be held in Evansville, Ind. on Nov. 21.
