Four Augie Tracksters Win Races at MSU Open

The Augustana track team had a strong showing at the Minnesota State University Open and Pentathlon Saturday in Mankato, Minn. Freshman Cecilie Udstuen met a provisional qualifying mark while three other Vikings won their respective races.
 
Udstuen won the women's 800 meter, finishing in 2:13.97. This easily surpasses the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 2:16.50, making Udstuen Augie's second track & field member to make a provisional qualifying mark.
 
Senior Caitlin Polgreen ran a career-best in the mile. Her time of 5:05.87 earned her third place in the meet.
 
The men's team had an impressive day, with three members winning their races. Senior Matt Heesch won the 5,000 meters in 15:35.19. Sophomore Austin Vande Berg also won the mile, finishing the race in 4:22.21. In addition, senior Brian Werner was first in the 800 meter, with a time of 1:55.07.

Sophomore Aaron Jung finished in second place in the shot put, launching the shot 50-06.50 feet.
 
The team will compete in Mankato, Minn. again next weekend for the Ted Nelson Classic.
