The Augustana men's and women's track and field teams continued its impressive weekend with more personal-best marks, including two school records at the Iowa State Classic Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
Cecille Udstuen turned in the top performance for the Viking women. She finished 15th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:11.01, which was a new school record and an NCAA automatic qualifying time. The previous record was 2:12.67 set by Mary Stoll in 2006.
Linn Nilsson alsol had a big day. She set a school record in the mile with a time of 4:57.06 to finish in 16th place. She broke the previous record of 5:02.33 set by Rachel Stangler in 2007. Also in that race,
Caitlin Polgreen set a lifetime best by finishing 24th in a time of 5:02.01. Both Nilsson and Polgreen established NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the process.
For the Viking men,
Brian Werner set an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters when he crossed the finish line in 1:53.39. He finished in 30th place.
Austin Vande Berg had a top 10 finish by placing seventh in the non-seeded mile with a time of 4:18.68. His mark was a personal-best time.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Diego Oquendo was clocked at 8.26 seconds. Although he failed to advance to the finals, he was just 0.1 seconds off the school record. He was also 15th in the 60-meter dash in 7.07. He ran 6.94 in the prelims.
Tom Karbo was clocked in 8:31.19 in the 3,000 meters, which is the top time in the NSIC this season.
In the high jump,
Cory Sugden tied for seventh place after he set a lifetime best by clearing 6-07.0.
