Augustana Men's Tracksters Break a Pair of School Records

The Augustana men's track and field team broke two school records and set two provisional qualifying marks at the Nebraska Tune Up in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday.

Junior Diego Oquendo broke a school record in the 60 meter hurdles, running the race in 8.18. The previous record, 8.25, was set by Augustana track legend Vance Butler in 1979. The mark is also a Division II provisional qualifier. Oquendo also finished 11th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.98.

The Augustana distance medley relay team also broke a school record at the meet. The event, which the Vikings finished in 9:58.41, was run by sophomore Travis Beniak, freshman Odou Omot, senior Brian Werner, and sophomore Tom Karbo. The team also made a provisional qualifying time.

Sophomore Paul Mallory finished 17th in the 60 meter hurdles.

In the weight throw, Kevin Knapp finished 11th with a throw of 14.74 meters. Just behind him was Tyler Lynch, who finished 12th, throwing 14.20 meters.
The Vikings will be in action again next weekend as they compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 26-27 in Mankato, Minn.
