After the first day of competition, the Augustana women's and track & field team is currently in third place at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn.
U-Mary is in the lead in the team scores with 44 points and St. Cloud State is second with 41. Augie is close on their heels with 39 points.
The Augie women cleaned up in the 3000 meters, placing in third, fourth, fifth, and eighth.
Kyle Blakeslee was the fastest Viking, finishing in a time of 10:11.64.
Molly Clark was close behind, completing the race in 10:12.42 while
Runa Falch finished in 10:17.23 in her first race as a Viking. Annie Pfeile finished eighth with a time of 10:21.05.
Noel Bentele and Rachel Christensen put together strong showings in the women's weight throw, earning third and fourth place, respectively. Bentele threw 15.89 meters while Christensen recorded a throw of 15.74 meters.
Bobbi Jo Buyck finished fourth in the women's long jump. Her mark of 5.54 meters was just a centimeter away from a provisional qualifer.
The women's distance medley relay, ran by
Molly Kokesh, Claire Seversen,
Miriam Hovda, and
Allison Henke, placed third. They ran the race in 12:27.11.
The meet will conclude tomorrow with finals in nine more running events and three women's field events. Action kicks off with the women's pole vault at 10 a.m.
