The Augustana men's track and field team is currently in third place after one day of competition at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn.
The men have tallied a team score of 35.5, behind second place team, MSU Moorhead with 41.5 points. Minnesota State is out in front with 60.5 points.
Junior
Diego Oquendo set a school record in the preliminaries of the 60 meter dash. His time of 6.82 was the fastest preliminary time and was a provisional qualifier.
The Augie men dominated in the 3000 meters, with
Tom Karbo winning the race in 8:36.32. Austin Vande Berg was second in 8:38.00 while
Matt Braithwaite finished sixth in 8:45.15.
Corey Sugden finished fifth in the men's high jump with a jump of 6-03.25. Blake Ridgway reached the same height, but finished eighth with a higher number of attempts.
The distance medley team finished in second place with a time of 10:35.31. Participants were
Jordan Slusser,
Aduo Omot,
Brian Werner, and
Daniel Black.
Aaron Jung finished sixth in the shot put, with a throw of 15.54 meters.
Tyler Lynch took ninth place with a launch of 14.45 meters.
The meet will conclude tomorrow with the finals of nine more running events taking place along with two more men's field events.
Competition will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men's weight throw.
