The Augustana track and field teams had a successful first day at the NSIC Track & Field Championships in Moorhead, Minn. After seven events, the women sit in third place while the men are 12th.
Augie's women have collected 39 points while the men have racked up 12.
The Vikings took second, third, and fourth in the women's 10K.
Runa Falch was second with a time of 36:16.26 while
Molly Clark was close behind, finishing in 36:21.64. Miriam Hovlda was fourth with a time of 36:26.25.
In the women's hammer,
Noel Bentele finished third with a throw of 49.16 meters.
Kacia Erickson took seventh in the finals of the women's pole vault. Her best attempt on the day was 10-06.25.
Bobbi Jo Buyck took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 17-09.75.
In the high jump,
Karissa Pepin was fourth with a height of 5-02.25.
The Vikings qualified four competitors for the finals of the women's 1500 meter.
Cecilie Udstuen was Augie's top finisher and had the third-best prelim time, finishing the race in 4:40.58.
Linn Nilsson was the sixth qualifier in a time of 4:47.52. Also advancing to the finals are
Caitlin Polgreen and
Molly Kokesh, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Polgreen turned in a prelim time of 4:57.95 while Kokesh finished in 4:59.92.
Buyck and
Claire Severson both qualified for the finals in the 100 meter hurdles. Buyck had the sixth-best time of 15.47 while Severson was eighth with a time of 15.61.
The Vikings had three qualifiers in the women's 800 meter. Udstuen had the second-fastest time in the event, finishing in 2:19.32 while Nilsson was third in a 2:21.52.
LeAnn Severson also qualified with a time of 2:21.60.
Megan Erspamer was Augie's lone qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles. Her time of 1:08.36 was the fifth-best time of the day.
For the men,
Matt Heesch was Augie's top finisher in the men's 5K. His time of 32:15.95 earned him fifth place.
Matt Braithwaite was eighth, finishing in 32:24.59.
Corey Sugden finished third in the finals of the men's high jump today with a vault of 6-05.50.
In the men's javelin,
Dylan Buehler posted a best mark of 45.14 meters. This earned him eighth place.
For the men's team, the Vikings had three competitors advance to the finals of the 1500 meter.
Tom Karbo finished in 4:03.25, giving him the third-best qualifying time. Teammate
Austin Vande Berg was close behind in 4:03.85. Also qualifying was
Jordan Slusser with a time of 4:08.88.
The Vikings also had two qualifiers in the 110 hurdles.
Diego Oquendo had the third-best prelim time of 14.97.
Paul Mallory also qualified for the finals in a time of 15.20. Mallory also qualified in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.89.
Three Vikings advanced to the finals of the men's 800 meter. Vande Berg turned in a prelim time of 1:57.41, giving him the second-best qualifying time.
Aduo Omot finished in a time of 1:58.51 while
Brian Werner also qualified for the finals, running the event in 1:58.39.
The meet will conclude tomorrow with field events starting at 11 a.m.
