Seven Augustana track and field student-athletes competed Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Charlotte, N.C.

Sophomore Travis Beniak set a new personal record in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, posting a time of 8:58.77, besting his old personal best of 9:04.97 by more than six seconds. His mark qualified him for Saturday's final. Sophomore Tom Karbo also qualified for Saturday's final, recording a time of 9:06.33.

Freshman Linn Nilsson and senior Caitlin Polgreen both posted qualifying times in the women's 1500 meter run to advance to Saturday's final. Nilsson qualified with a time of 4:32.76, 0.66 seconds shy of her personal best of 4:32.10. Polgreen tied her personal best, posting a time of 4:31.59.

In the women's 3000 steeplechase, freshman Kyle Blakeslee finished two spots shy of qualifying for Saturday's final, finishing 14th in a time of 10:54.95. Senior Molly Clark was unable to compete in the steeplechase due to an ankle injury.

In the women's hammer throw final, junior Noel Bentele recorded a best throw of 49.06 meters (160 feet, 11 inches) to place 15th.

The remainder of Augustana's NCAA qualifiers will compete in preliminaries on Friday. Cecilie Udstuen will contend in the women's 800 meter run, while Aduo Omot and Brian Werner will vie for spots in the finals in the men's 800 meter run. The top eight in each race will qualify for Saturday's final.
