– Augustana's Aduo Omot has advanced to the finals of the 800-meter run at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships after running an opening-round time of 1 minute 51.9 seconds Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Omot finished eighth and will compete in the finals tomorrow at 1:40 p.m.

Omot, a native of Worthington, Minn., was a freshman with the Augustana track and field program this past season. He qualified for the Championships last spring after posting a time of 1:49.46 in the event. Omot had the No. 2 seed entering today's contest. To be eligible for the Championships, competitors cannot turn 20 years old during 2010.

Omot is one of two Viking track and field athletes competing at this year's Championships. Kyle Blakeslee, who was also a freshman this past season, qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run and will compete tomorrow and Saturday in the finals of both events. The 3,000-meter steeplechase will start tomorrow at 1:15 p.m., while the 5,000-meter run begins Saturday at 5:55 p.m. The Cannon Falls, Minn., native has the No. 3 seed for both events.

The top three finishers in each event will qualify for the International Association of Athletics Federations Junior Track and Field Championships. This year's competition will be held in Moncton, Canada on July 19-25.
