Cross country releases 2010 schedule

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana head women's and men's cross country coach Tracy Hellman has announced his team's schedule for the 2010 season. The upcoming slate includes four regular season meets and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA postseason competition.

The season gets underway on Sept. 25 as the Vikings travel to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational, one of the largest meets in the country. Augustana has previously done well at this invite as the women's team won in 2008 and both the men's and women's team took third last season.

The team will then travel to Vermillion, S.D., on Oct. 1 for the Tim Young Open followed by The Chili Pepper Festival on Oct.16 in Fayetteville, Ark. Last season's Chili Pepper Invite featured Division I national champion Oklahoma State.

The Viking will then travel to the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, S.D., on Oct. 23 for their final regular season competition.

The NSIC Championships are Nov. 6 in Wayne, Neb. The NCAA Regional is also Wayne on Nov. 20.

The season will conclude with the NCAA Nationals in Louisville, Ky., on Dec. 4. Augustana's men placed 10th nationally last season, while the women finished 13th.

“I feel that this year's schedule will give both our teams an opportunity to get tested throughout the year, and this will help us perform well in the Championship season that starts in November," said Hellman.
