Vikings picked to finish second, third in the NSIC

BURNSVILLE, Minn.
– The Augustana women's track team has been selected to finish second with 92 points and three first-place votes, while the men garnered 67 points and were selected to finish third in the 2010-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll released Tuesday.

Four Vikings were named NSIC Track & Field Athletes to Watch. On the women's side, Noel Bentele was selected for the throwing events and Runa Falch at distance. Cory Sugden and Diego Oquendo boast the honors for the men. Sugden was selected in the high jump and Oquendo for the hurdles/sprints events.

Minnesota State, Mankato men received seven first-place votes and 79 points and the University of Mary women's team received seven first-place votes and 96 points to be selected as the top choices.

A year ago at the NSIC Championships, the Viking women placed first and the men came in third.

Oquendo went on to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships last season and took 10th in the 60-meter dash.

The Vikings open their season on Saturday at the Minnesota State Preseason Open.
