Several South Dakota high school athletes recorded personal bests at meets during the week of April 27.
Cady Bitterman (Tripp-Delmont) ran 5:42.01 in the 1600 meters at the Great Plains Conference Track Meet on April 28, improving from her previous best of 5:57.88. The freshman finished second of 10 competitors and ranks #81 in the state and #12 among freshmen. Bitterman also set a personal record in the 800 meters, running 2:36.44 after entering with a best of 2:43.04.
Gram Messler (Gayville-Volin) won the 3200 meters in 11:08.66 at the Great Plains Conference Track Meet on April 28, breaking the school record. The time improved on his previous best of 11:55.59 from April 2025 and ranks #137 in the state among 299 athletes.
David Schmidt (Rapid City Stevens) threw 44-11.5 in the shot put to win the Cobbler Invite Track and Field Meet on April 29. The junior improved from his previous best of 41-5.5 set in April 2026 and ranks #60 in the state and #7 among juniors.
Carter Brown (Tea Area) won the shot put at the Lennox Throws Festival on April 30 with a throw of 48-5. The mark improved on his previous best of 45-4 and ranks #29 in the state among 956 athletes.
Tate Hogie (Ipswich) threw 145-9 to win the discus at the Rob Luecke Invitational on April 28. The mark improved from his previous best of 137-5 and ranks #22 in the state among 971 athletes.
Jace Bender (Leola) ran 4:51.36 in the 1600 meters at the Rob Luecke Invitational on April 28, setting a school record. The sophomore improved from his previous best of 5:00.43 from April 2026, finished fifth of 18 competitors and ranks #74 in the state and #18 among sophomores. Bender also set a personal record in the 3200 meters, running 11:00.65 after entering with a best of 11:15.70.
Easton Sees (Avon) ran 2:11.94 in the 800 meters at the Great Plains Conference Track Meet on April 28, setting a school record. The sophomore improved from his previous best of 2:13.97 from April 2025, finished second of 15 competitors and ranks #141 in the state and #26 among sophomores. Sees also recorded a personal best in the 400 meters, running 53.50 after entering with a best of 54.81.
