South Dakota high school athletes set personal records and school marks at the SDHSAA State Track & Field Meet on May 28.
Demetrius Sanchez-Gonza (Cheyenne Eagle Butte) ran 10:12.11 in the boys' 3200 meters, improving from his previous best of 10:42.87. The sophomore finished 47th of 71 competitors and ranks #67 in the state and #11 among sophomores.
Kenzie Kolousek (Wessington Springs) ran 2:18.75 in the girls' 800 meters, breaking her previous mark of 2:24.86. The time set a school record and placed her 21st of 72 competitors while ranking #27 in the state. Kolousek also ran 58.80 in the 400 meters, improving from 58.81.
Penny Schultz (Freeman) clocked 2:29.26 in the girls' 800 meters, bettering her previous best of 2:34.73 from May 2026. She finished 65th of 72 competitors and ranks #118 in the state.
Jayden Schwan (Groton Area) ran 9:40.14 in the boys' 3200 meters, improving from 10:04.87 set in May 2026. The senior's time set a school record and earned 20th place of 71 competitors while ranking #25 in the state and #10 among seniors.
Evan Perrigo (Rapid City Stevens) ran 9:35.67 in the boys' 3200 meters, improving from his previous best of 9:59.82. The freshman finished 14th of 71 competitors and ranks #18 in the state and #1 among freshmen. Perrigo also ran 4:26.00 in the 1600 meters, improving from 4:28.42.
Ava George (Irene-Wakonda) ran 11:44.93 in the girls' 3200 meters, improving from 12:06.16. Her time set a school record and placed her 32nd of 71 competitors while ranking #43 in the state. George also set personal records in the 1600 meters (5:24.40, improving from 5:29.19) and 800 meters (2:24.37, improving from 2:29.78).
Marley Guthmiller (Ipswich) ran 2:20.40 in the girls' 800 meters, improving from 2:25.33 set in May 2026. The senior finished 26th of 72 competitors and ranks #35 in the state and #10 among seniors.
