SOUTH DAKOTA MILESPLIT USER’S GUIDE

South Dakota MileSplit (https://www.sd.milesplit.com)

What is this thing?

MileSplit is the premier high school track and field and cross country network in the United States.  They already talk about themselves HERE, so no need to try to sound knowledgeable and copy/paste.

Every state has a website and a webmaster that is responsible for including meet results into the national database.  The best part about uploading results into the national database is that we get the same rankings, statistical analysis and the like for just South Dakota.

There are A TON of functions on South Dakota MileSplit, but here are couple of features that I think are the best:

FREE TEAM PAGE: Every team gets a free page where they can upload Rosters, Schedules, Photo, Video, etc.  That’s pretty basic and there are a lot of sites that can do this, HOWEVER the great part of the team sites is that there are several automated features that require ZERO EFFORT.

  • Season best performance lists are automatically created when meets are entered into the MIleSplit database.
  • A yearly historical database is also automatically created
  • Every time your team is “tagged” (Facebook term, Google it if you’re not sure) it is automatically attached to your team page.
  • I think the TEAM PAGES are pretty self-explanatory and easy to navigate, but if you need help, CLICK HERE.

CUSTOMIZABLE INDIVIDUAL PAGES:  Parents can “Claim their Child” (find out how HERE) and add photos, videos, etc.  This becomes can become a great source of information, motivation and could potentially be helpful in the college recruitment process.

VIRTUAL MEETS: Coaches, want to know how your conference or state meet might turn out before it takes place?  Just create a virtual meet with all of the teams you'll be up against and see where you stack up.  This is a really cool feature that will save coaches a ton of time manually predicting points.

YEARLY COMPARISONS:  All meets will have be assigned a "history"- that is, you'll be able to use the "Compare" feature to see how previous season's teams/results stacked up against current meet standings.  No more “Pinocchio” times and distances that get faster and longer with age.

STALKING:  We all know how this works.  You’re headed to a meet in Iowa and you want to know the quality of the kids in your race, so what do you do? You MileSplit stalk them.   Coaches:  have a new kid in school who tells you they ran 45-46 something in the 400m Dash…better MileSplit that one.

HAVE PHOTOS/VIDEOS? At a cross country meet and take a bunch of photos, but no one to see your work? Add them to the meet coverage and become an amateur photographical legend.

INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS/PERFORMANCE LISTS:

In my mind, this is the #1 function of MileSplit.  There millions of performances in the MileSplit database and now we (Sodak) are in the mix.

Collegiate athletics now has TFRRS (Track and Field Results Reporting System) which is hosted by the USTFCCCA where meet directors simply submit meet results.  Qualifying for nationals is simply based on these compete lists.  It’s actually a pretty simply process.

  • Host Meet
  • Enter Results into Hytek or RaceTab (more on this later)
  • Submit Results

MileSplit is the “high school version” of TFRRS in regard to meet results.  Submitting results allows you to see where every kid you coach stands on your TEAM, in SD & the USA…

Several states that require meet results sent into their state MileSplit website for qualification purposes.

IT ALL HINGES ON MEET RESULTS.

MEET RESULTS ARE THE BEATING HEART OF SD.MILESPLIT.COM.

Imagine if we could have every single athlete’s complete event-by-event career available at the click of a mouse….

HOW TO SUBMIT MEET RESULTS?

HYTEK has an EXPORT OPTION called FLAT HTML.   This is the sure-fire way to get your meet’s results into the MileSplit Database.

Using an archaic spreadsheet because you don’t have HYTEK (the license is kind of expensive) USE SOMETHING THAT’S TOTALLY FREE….RACETAB
