11/8 High School XC Weekend Recap

Highlights, coverage, and results from the top meets across the country on the weekend of November 8th. Check back all weekend long with updates on the top national performances in high school cross country.

  • Alabama State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - Only an 8th grader, Amaris Tyynismaa set the Alabama state course record with a sizzling 17:03 down to win the 4A title in Oakville. Ben Bryant of Opelika was the fastest boys winner of the meet in the 6A boys race with a time of 15:34. The Mountain Brook girls with 5 girls from 19:01 to 19:28 had the best team race of the day as the 7A champs, while the Auburn boys were equally impressive with a 27 second spread for their 6A state champion squad from 15:51 to 16:18. 
  • Arizona State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - Dani Jones breaks the Arizona state meet course record previously held by Jessica Tonn with a swift 17:25 performance to lead her nationally ranked Desert Vista girls to big win in Division 1 as well. Carlos Villarreal wins Division 3 race with fastest boys time of day in 15:24  
  • Arkansas State Meet (On-Site Coverage)
  • Delaware State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - Lydia Olivere of Padua Academy in 18:36 and Stephen Garrett of Tatnall in 15:37 are fastest individual winners to lead their teams onto victories as well at Brandywine Creek State Park.
  • Florida Regionals (On-Site Coverage)
  • Georgia State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - Galloway's Reilly Friedman dipped under 16 minutes on the always challenging Georgia state course with a 15:52 performance from the strong Foot Locker Nationals hopeful. Morgan Iisle had the top girls time of the meet in 4A victory of 18:24 and her Marist squad were also the fastest team of the meet with a 19:31 team average, while Lindsay Billings was not far off her time in her 6A race win at 18:29. The US #21 Marietta boys won their 6A classification with ease, but the St. Pius X boys in 4A came out on top in the results merge.
  • Illinois State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - US #24 Maryjeanne Gilbert, a junior at Notre Dame Peoria, ran the second fastest girls time ever at historic Detweiller Park with an incredible 16:11 3 mile run to win the Class 2A race. US #8 ranked Jesse Reiser moved himself up a very accomplished all-time list of who's who in Illinois high school cross country in winning the 3A boys race in the day's fastest time at 14:11. The US #15 Hinsdale Central boys repeated as 3A champs to defeat US #14 Sandburg 104-138. After being preseason US top 10 ranked, the US #25 Naperville North girls finally showed why they were ranked so high at start of season to beat US #11 Glenbard West and US #15 Hinsdale Central in a very competitive 3A girls race.

  • Missouri State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - US #5 ranked Hannah Long wins her 3rd straight state title with second fastest time ever on state mee course in 17:38. Michael Karls of Festus runs 15:23 in 3A race for top boys time of day over 4A champ Stephen Mugeche at 15:32. The Lafayette boys of Wildwood started the season as one of the top teams in state and finished it as well to be the top team in the results merge by significant margin of 57 points and 16:03 team average. 
  • Nevada State Meet 
  • New England Championships (On-Site Coverage) - US #3 Alex Ostberg (15:07) and US #3 Hannah Debalsi (17:58) continue to run well ahead of competition and without any serious challengers this season. US #10 La Salle boys look much stronger with Jack Salisbury back to win big 67-144 over Connecticut state champs Danbury. Meanwhile, US #9 La Salle girls (1st, 80 pts) get a much tougher test from New Hampshire state champs Coe Brown Academy (2nd, 93 pts)
  • New Mexico State Meet (On-Site Coverage)
  • New York State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - Bella Burda outduels Jessica Lawson again at SUNY Canton, but this time for the New York Class A title in a time of 17:49. The US #4 ranked Fayetteville-Manlius girls are coming on stronger at season end as is the norm with them historically in crushing the field of two US top 20 ranked squads in US #13 Corning and US #16 Saratoga Springs with a low winning score of 20 points and 5 girls in the top 12 places of Class A race. The US #1 ranked F-M boys also dominated with a score of 24 points and led by repeat state cross country individual champ Bryce Millar in a time of 15:30 (fastest of the day).
  • NXN Heartland Region (On-Site Coverage) - A Minnesota sweep of the team autos of the Heartland Region with Wayzata boys (1st, 92 pts) and girls (1st, 96 pts) sweeping the team titles and will be joined in Portland by the Willmar girls (2nd, 126 pts) and Edina boys (2nd, 127 pts). Wisconsin state champ and US #12 ranked Ollin Hacker won the boys race in 15:05, while Minnesota state champ Bethany Hasz spoiled Stephanie Jenks' season debut (2nd, 17:12) with a 17:06 5K PR victory, while twin sister Megan was third in 17:17. South Dakota state champ Will Lauer was runner-up to Hacker in 15:07, while his Sioux Falls Lincoln squad will need to wait and see if they get an at-large in third place at NXN Heartland.
  • South Carolina State Meet (On-Site Coverage)
  • Texas State Meet (On-Site Coverage) Devin Clark wins the 6A girls race in 17:10 to establish a new course record after being chased by Paige Hofstad (17:18). Carter Blunt wins the 5A boys title in 15:22, while David Strome was a tick slower for fastest time of the meet as the 6A champ in 15:23. The Lewsville Hebron girls scored a big upset in winning the 6A girls state team title, while the Southlake Carroll boys won their four straight state title with a 16:12 team average and 33 second spread.  
  • Virginia Regionals (On-Site Coverage) - Previous US #21 Libby Davidson over US #8 Weini Kelati in 4A North Region
  • Washington State Meet (On-Site Coverage) - Tanner Anderson gets revenge in loss last week to John Dressel, while breaking the Washington state meet course record in 14:33 to repeat as 3A champ. Bigger news and upset with the Anderson-led North Central boys defeating US top 10 ranked Kamiakin 41-55 with their entire top 5 under 16 minutes to keep their streak alive to 9 straight titles. The Camas girls showed how great their team was Alexa Efraimson-less this fall in winning the 4A team title with the fastest team average of the meet in 18:26 with 2 girls under 18 minutes. Richland's Lindsay Bradley is ready to take talents to national level after winning her first Washington state title with 17:13 PR and top girls performance of the meet.
