A 15:07.5 runner-up performance today at the Nike Heartland Regional at Yankton Trails cemented Lauer as one of the top South Dakota distance runners of all-time.
Now to Sioux Falls Lincoln, Lauer's team, who also had visions of Portland dancing in their heads.
The Patriots were incredible, putting up a spread of just over 20 seconds between their #2 and # 7 guys; and with Lauer’s 2nd place low-stick, they were essentially scoring four.
But whas it enough?
Nate Schroeder and Gabe Peters finished virtually side-by-side, running 16:08.1 and 16:08.8, respectively to place 44th and 47th.
Now the only question was:
Would the Lincoln four/five combo be enough to punch seven tickets to Portland?
