19. Brentwood Doubles With DMR Championships At NBNI and NBNO

They did it again.

And it was a perfect ending to four fantastic distance running careers. Scott Thompson, Dodger Vest, Max Benson and Brodey Hasty went out on top last weekend with a New Balance National Championship in the boys distance medley relay. It's the second national championship for the Brentwood quartet. They won the indoor title in the same event indoors.

Thompson got things started in the 1200. The Princeton signee had Brentwood in third after the first leg. He ran a 3:03 to keep his team right there in the front pack. Vest kept it rolling well with a 50.93 split, keeping Brentwood in the front group of elite runners.

Utah State signee Max Benson split 1:55 on the 800 meter leg. That kept Brentwood just four seconds back of the lead. And of course, they had the closer needed to put it away.

When Brodey Hasty gets the baton with the lead in sight, you're going to have a hard time outracing him to the line. Hasty did what he does so well, he cut down on the lead and powered through the line in first place. He split 4:08 in his final act with Brentwood.

Hasty grabbed his fourth national championship -- two titles in the distance medley relay and two indoor championships for two miles. This was Hasty's first outdoor national title. -- Will Boling
