South Dakota's Top Outdoor Performers: May 4-10

South Dakota's track and field circuit was spread out across the state last week, with athletes from Lennox to Spearfish to Winner delivering some of the top performances of the season.

Take a look at these five boys and five girls who were among the best in the state over the weekend!

Top Performers:

Bergun Musser (Lennox, 2029):

Musser led all girls in the state last week in both the 100m (at 11.88) and the 200m (at 24.61), posting both marks at the Rich Luther Relays. She also went 17-9.5 in the long jump at the same meet.

Beckett Martens (Tea Area, 2028):

The fastest 100m among all boys in South Dakota last week belonged to Martens, who ran 10.67 at the Yankton HS First Dakota Relays and backed it up with a 22.23 in the 200m at the same meet.

Taryn Hermansen (Aberdeen Central, 2026):

Hermansen threw the shot 47-10 at the Al Sahli Invitational, the top mark in that event among all girls in the state last week by nearly seven feet.

Marcus Furth (Sioux Falls Christian, 2026):

Furth threw 58-4 in the shot put at the Rich Luther Relays, the top mark among all boys in South Dakota last week. He added a 150-4 in the discus at the same meet for good measure.

Peyton VanDeest (Spearfish, 2027):

At the Black Hills Track Classic, VanDeest ran 4:55.22 in the 1600m, the fastest mark among all girls in the state last week by more than six seconds.

Quinn Bruch (Sturgis Brown, 2026):

Bruch led all boys in the state last week in the 1600m at 4:22.39 at the Black Hills Track Classic, and he followed it up by running 1:59.93 in the 800m at the same meet.

Malia Kranz (Watertown, 2026):

At the Al Sahli Invitational, Kranz led all girls in the discus at 148-7, one of the top South Dakota throws marks posted this season.

Jaxon Day (Winner, 2027):

Day's 176-5 in the discus at the Meet of Legends was the top mark among all boys in the state last week in that event, and leads the South Dakota season rankings.

Brianna Reilly (Harrisburg, 2030):

Reilly ran 2:15.65 in the 800m at the Brookings Bob Coffey Meet, the fastest mark among all girls in South Dakota last week - and a notable performance for a athlete who won't graduate until 2030.

Coy Urban (Rapid City Central, 2026):

Urban led all boys in the state last week in the high jump (6-7) and the long jump (20-11) at the Black Hills Track Classic, covering both the runway and the bar in the same meet.
