State Cross Country Meet in Rapid City at the end of October.&nbsp;</p>

McKayla Wieczorek and I'm senior at West Central High School.

What kind of shape are you in heading into this cross country season?

Highlight

I spent the summer recuperating from surgery earlier this spring, but I've been training with my team all summer and I seem to be back in tip top shape. Their encouragement really helped me to push myself, so hopefully this season will be even better than last year's season!

How did your track season go last spring? What were your best times, places or races?

Highlight

Early on in the season, I was hospitalized for about a week, during which I had surgery on my stomach. I was only able to run in a few meets last spring and I didn't run very great times.

What are your goals for this season on an individual level?

Highlight

I placed 19th at the state meet last year, so I'm hoping to improve on that and place in the top 18 at state.

What did your summer training look like?

Highlight

Our summer training was a lot more structured this year. Instead of just doing road work every day we made sure we did more interval and and fartlek workouts. Each day of the week was meant for a different type of workout. That way our training made sense and we could build off of it from week to week.

Who do you see as the top individuals in the state (and class, AA, A or B)?

Highlight

There weren't very many seniors in the top 25 last year, so I'm sure that it will be most of the same people.

What are your favorite workouts?

Highlight

I like long runs the best! I usually listen to music and zone out.

What is your favorite pre-race: Meal? Music? Routine?

Highlight

I love to eat chocolate chip banana pancakes before I run. They are delicious! I'm not too picky about my music. I usually just put my iPod on shuffle before a race. As team, we all do our warm ups together. It helps use to get in the zone and visualize the race.
