For much of its 33-year history, the Sunfair Invitational has been touted as the Northwest\'s largest single-day high school event. There\'s certainly no doubt of that since over 2,500 runners are expected at Franklin Park on Saturday. In recent years the Northwest influence coming from outside Washington has become more and more with Flathead, Mont., emerging as the meet\'s dominant team in the depth-testing seven-flight scoring format. The Braves are the defending Sunfair boys champs and they won the 2004 girls title. Last year, Thousand Oaks, Calif., edged Flathead for the girls crown. But this year the distant visitors will face a formidable in-state foe in Gig Harbor\'s girls, who rank 13th in the nation and just won a big meet in Boise last week. The Tides won last year\'s state 4A title by a hefty 34 points and they return four of their top five.

Doug Holt a Senior from Woodinville seems to throwing the guantlet down early, staking his claim to this year\'s Top Runner Title. a scorching 15:34.2 time edging out Dak Reik, Senior from Mariner by only 1.1 second. Four-time state champion Adam Betterton has signed a scholarship agreement to run track at Oklahoma Baptist University, beginning in 2006-07. Betterton, who won the 2005 110 and 300 hurdles at Shawnee High School, joins the tradition-rich Bison track program that has become a national power in those events. Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women\'s track team concluded the Conference USA Outdoor Track Championships in fifth-place in a field of 12 teams, while the Golden Hurricane men earned a sixth-place mark in a field of eight. The TU teams combined for 17 top-five marks, 15 personal-bests, set four school records and had eight tracksters pick up all-conference honors. Junior Rickey Wilson, Jr., received all-conference first-team accolades in both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. He set a personal-best, a school record and qualified for NCAA Regionals with his time of 13.99 in the 110-meter hurdles, and turned in a first-place time of 53.48 in the 400-meter hurdles.
