The Sioux Falls Lincoln Boys Cross Country team won their third consecutive SDHSAA State Championship this season and finished 3rd at the Nike Heartland Regional, which consists of the very best teams and individuals from a seven state region. Out of the Nike Heartland Regional, the Patriots qualified for the Nike National Meet, placing 21st in the event. The Patriots were led by Stanford recruit, Will Lauer and a star-studded cast of 2-7's. If we look at performance at the national level, no other team in South Dakota- in any sport-excelled at the US level like Lincoln. Should they have been awarded South Dakota Sportswriter's Boys Team of the Year for 2014?

SOUTH DAKOTA BOYS POWERHOUSE PROGRAMS :SPRINTS (100 Meters, 200 Meters and 400 Meters) This is a new series modeled after the MileSplit US Powerhouse Rankings. How does it work? The 50 best athletes in each classification of events: Sprints, Distance, Hurdles, Jumps and Throws are ranked in descending order, with 1st place receiving 50 points, 2nd place scoring 49 points and so forth. Team scoring is based on the sum of individual scores, just like in a normal track meet- except the South Dakota Powerhouse Rankings are scored 50 deep!
By Rich Winter You don't win AA track titles without having outstanding team depth and the Rapid City Stevens girls and the Sioux Falls Lincoln boys are perfect examples.
